President, Arizona Art Education Association 2016-2018

Mission Statement:

A vibrant and creative community that inspires, supports, and advocates for innovative learning in the visual arts.

Advocacy (support, outreach, promote)

Promote the Arts in Arizona through:

  • YAM  (Year 1: flag, Art at PAM/ Year 2: Art at NAEA, artwork at State capitol, events at each school)
  • American for the Arts
  • Create a new council positions, Arts Advocate, with job description to support advocacy needs of AAEA members
Research (research, studies)
  • Collect needs and interest of AAEA members through an interest survey
  • Document current members on map of Arizona to chart growth and representation
  • Provide recognition of award winners at National Level and acknowledge  achievements via Facebook and newsletter
Learning (professional development, training, conference)
  • Identify and support new and emerging leaders
  • Maintain variety of professional development opportunities through
    • Work with Regional Liaison to create one workshop in each region a year (North: summer/South: spring/East and West: winter/Central: fall)
    • Inform members of AAEA learning opportunities through monthly emails (Connected to NAEA)
Community (communication)
  • Communicate NAEA benefits through printed material, website, email and facebook
  • Publish bi annual newsletter
    • May/June (End of the School Year)
    • August/September (Beginning of School Year)
  • Maintain AAEA transparency through:
    • Weekly updates on AAEA website and Facebook page
    • Bi-weekly executive board phone calls
    • Monthly executive board meetings (via google hangout or in person)
    • Quarterly Council meetings (April 9, 2016, August 20, 2016, November 12, 2016 {conference}, February 28, 2017)
Organizational Vibrancy (leadership, WE)
  • Support interests of AAEA members by connecting to NAEA interest groups
  • Maintain Conference timeline
  • Maintain timeline of executive board duties in common calendar (organization at a glance)
  • Build relationships with Executive board (Summer Leadership retreat and Team building workshops)
  • Increase member population through involvement in NAEA Partnership program
  • Review policy and procedures for possible updates
